Notting Hill Carnival 26th - 27th of August
Notting Hill Carnival was started in 1965 by West Indian immigrants who moved here in the 50's, the carnival was created to carry on carnival traditions from the West Indies & ease racial tentions, helping to bring people together from all walks of life. The Carnival attracts millions of visitors from around the world & is the biggest street festival in Europe, the second biggest in the world, after Rio. This annual extravaganza has many spectacular floats, stunning costumes, large sound systems, Samba plays a big part as far as dance & music goes & ofcourse theres the traditional sounds of the steel drums, also there are many street stalls selling tasty food & Carnival memorabilia. The Carnival takes place over the bank holiday weekend every August.
